Man Day Thursday: Half-Assed Man Costumes

Halloween really brings out a while new side to the gender divide. While a big deal is made about how ladies use the holiday as an excuse to dress slutty, no one mentions the other side of the coin: how men phone it in big time on costumes. At least a slutty costume is an attempt at a costume; men can't be bothered to scrape together anything until 30 minutes before the party. Can man's lack of creativity towards Halloween costumes finally enter the coversation? What do you suppose is the breakdown of sales of "This IS my costume" t-shirts each year gender-wise? Bingo.

God bless 'em, these men and their terrible Halloween costumes they hobbled together at Rite-Aid on the way home from work. This year, I want to celebrate a venerable institution, the half-assed man costume:

Gangsta M.D.s

This is just pathetic. Half washed off make up on one guy, and the other guy is what, a funnel fan?

Teletubbie mixed with black suited Spider-Man? If you can explain this, you deserve a funnel full of candy corns:

Spider-Man is kind of ok, a little store-bought, but mister leather shorts?? That's not even a costume if you just wear what you wear to bed each night.

What exactly is a guy in a dirty hoodie and white facepaint? A zombie who lives in his mom's basement?

I'm pretty sure blue Spidey is a woman.
Or he's packing some serious moobs.

i think that dude is dressed as a juggalo, so, yes, an undead slacker.

Mr. Pleather seems to be quite interested in Mr./Mrs. Spidey's back side.

Could it be more perfect?

Speaking of half assed, the guy towards the frong of the Mr Latex picture.

One Hallowe'en themed baseball cap and some scary clown make up with, what, ordinary street clothes.

At least the zombie slacker covered most of his face.....

Pretty sure the dirty hoodie guy is trying to be one of the guys from 'Dead Presidents'.

Just saw a good-looking woman on the train wearing a "This IS My Costume" shirt. Does that screw up your theory, or is she the exception that proves the rule?

I'm just relieved to see this issue addressed... I've been saying it for years... I once had a guy friend paint his face white with house paint for halloween... he was too lazy to but face paint. I'm also glad you admited you half assed it... I thought perhaps you were just being self reflexive... there must be so many more treasures on flicker!

I think the funnel fan guy's costume is next to him, dudes that pick non-lazy costumes have a propensity for picking costumes that are hard to drink in. See the cardboard box? It's awesome-o the robot from South Park...non lazy version would've had a cartman costume on underneath, right?

I think the vinyl shorts guy could pass for Little Britain's "but I am the only gay in the village" character, but something tells me that's not what he was going for.

Maybe I just want to have faith in this because all my dude friends come up with great costumes--Yesterday I got text messages from a friend's boyfriend asking to borrow blue tights for his lucha libra costume...but yeah, the lazy man costumes need to be stopped.

UM!!! No commentary about the A.W.E.S.O.M.E. cardboard robot? This thing is the best thing I've seen. Ever.

yeah, but how awesome is a costume if you have to take it off and it just ends up being used to leave beer cups on all night? you have to deduct points for that.

exactly why i said that if he was REALLY committed to halloween, he'd have at least worn cartman colors underneath. everyone knows that if you wear a cardboard box to a party, you're gonna take it off at some point. plan for it, duh!

Oh! I didn't notice that was a costume. I thought some dude had just made a cardboard robot just to have around. That would be way cooler.

Well, I *do* see A.W.E.S.O.M.E.-O. in the background of the one photo. That's cool.
